Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our holistic wellness counseling services.
What is the difference between a counsellor and a psychologist?
A counsellor can provide support, teach skills, and psychoeducate on different areas and topics that you may struggle with. A psychologist can provide more intensive therapy, diagnose and address more serious concerns and different kinds of psychopathology.
What can I expect from counselling?
You will be provided with a safe, judgement-free space where you can share your story and grow. You and your counsellor will work together to find different tools and measures that may be useful for long-term change and coping with different situations in life.
How long does counselling take?
Counselling can range between 6 and 12 sessions, but everyone is different, and some may require less, or more, sessions. This all depends on your needs at that point in time. You are permitted to stop sessions at any time should you wish to do so.
How often should I attend sessions?
This is entirely up to you. If you want to attend sessions weekly, biweekly or monthly, that is your choice. You can also start with weekly or biweekly then adjust the frequency as you see fit.
Is everything I say in counselling kept confidential?
Yes, 100%. Anything that you feel comfortable enough to share with your counsellor in sessions is kept confidential. There are exceptions to this, which include:
⁃ If you are a danger to yourself or others – our main priority is to keep you safe,
⁃ If there is suspicion or disclosure of child abuse – I am required by the law to report this,
⁃ If records are subpoenaed by court, and
⁃ If you give me written permission and consent to share your information.
Can I claim from medical aid?
Unfortunately, not. We are a private practice that cannot claim from medical aid. You are thus fully responsible for ensuring sessions are fully paid 24 hours in advance.
Where are you located?
At this point in time, Concsiencia | Mindful is a fully online practice and conducts sessions via Microsoft Teams or Google Meet.
What happens if I need to cancel my session?
If you give notice more than 24 hours prior to the scheduled session, there will be no penalty fees. However, should you cancel your session within the 24 hours before the scheduled session’s start time, you will incur a 50% penalty fee.
